TIME

In response to Carpe Diem Prompt #720, “if taken in my hand”

if taken in my hand
it would vanish in hot tears
autumn frost
© Basho (Tr. Jane Reichhold)

OUR HOST

frost on the branches
melts in the early sunlight
life passes

my hair turned gray

as if it was the frost
on bare branches

© Chèvrefeuille

For further inspiration there is a commercial running in our area that has a little boy asking,

“……how come no one wants to get old, I thought getting older meant living longer….”

Good question I thought. I don’t remember what they were selling but it had me reflecting, relates to this post I think.

Here is my response:

TIME

in moving through time

reflecting on life’s passions

no mourning for youth

No Strength Left

The following haiku by Shida Yaba he wrote when he heard the news of Basho’s death (1694):

chikara na ya hiza o kakaete fuyugomori

no strength left –
I wrap my arms around my knees
in winter solitude

© Shida Yaba

MINE

no strength left
a deep mournful sigh escapes
spirit is set free

End of the Month

We are on the trail with Basho

end of the month
no moon hugging an ancient cedar
in the storm

© Basho (Tr. Jane Reichhold)

A translation:

moonless night . . .
a powerful wind embraces
the ancient cedars

© Basho (Tr. ?)

OUR HOST:

I bow my head
in worship of the holy sunrise
at Ise Shrine

© Chèvrefeuille

From these I got a sense change and loss.

MY EFFORT:

blooms double in size
spring eases close to summer
end of the month
