I love this idea of quoting a writer as it pertains to writing. A quote that influence, inspired, leave a mark on your psyche. For mine as far as who said it..sorry, don’t remember his name, having a malfunction of my gray matter. He was being interviewed or was on a panel discussion on the process of writing or growing a character.
In essence he said
“…as a writer the characters reveal themselves to the writer. They start as a shadow, a distant mirage moving toward you. As they get closer the image is sharper ending with the revelation that we as writers gladly take credit for…”
That was the coolest thing I’d ever heard a writer say. Some others that I found that now have me digging for their work:
“It is perectly okay to write garbage – as long as you edit brillantly” – C.J. Cherryh
and
” Writing is not necessarily something to be ashamed of, but do it in private and wash your hands afterwards”
– Robert A. Heinein
and
“if you wish to be a writer, write.” – Epictetus

That quote from the unnamed writer is so true. I’m experiencing that now. The more you write, the more the characters reveal who they are.
I also love “It is perectly okay to write garbage – as long as you edit brilliantly.” That’s a comfort to me right now!

I too have experienced that over and over. And I swear. Every time I’m about to throw in the towel that guy (that wrote the first one) pops into my head. I’m so upset with myself for not remembering his name. He was kinda famous too:)

Excellent quotes…the last one is what made me write so much on this blog which I started over a year after Tornesoldansunjardin. I saw a blogger giving advice on blogging…he said to write write and write some more, so I did and I got better over time.

Awesome…I have followed Ronoan for haiku in the past and decided to do this prompt too. It may push me to write more…been writing much less lately except for haiku.

Me too! At the start of this blog all I wrote were essays, mostly having to do with my early life. Then I just stopped! And removed them from the blog. A little odd I suppose. I’ve been thinking about all that lately. I wrote more then. Guess we both need to get back to our roots:)

Yes, I wrote a lot of essays of my past too but once that’s out of the way then we can do other stuff…some Dear Emma posts are private not…way too much information…sheeesh, what was I thinking?!!!

Ah! Ah! But it’s out; off you chest so to speak. I remember the last word/paragraph on the last essay was.. ENOUGH.
So far it’s proven to be just that.:)

Oh my that would have been difficult…I still don’t have the time or courage to do that. I would h ave to have a plan, plot or something but I want to write about so many things…lol. Are you doing NaNoWroMo?

Still don’t know yet. No plan. Not feeling essays- autobiographical ones anyway. Still thinking:)

I used to go to his pub in Toronto when I lived there…I don’t know if he wrote much there but he surely had a few pints 😉

For sure.!! I liked his attitude. though. He didn’t give a damn! I read the manuscriot of some interview he did in The Paris Review. It felt very honest. He had much to say about writing.
