Today’s prompt over at OctPoWriMo has to do with a trip down memory lane, all the way to childhood.
I have always loved listening to the rain. Even today I find my way to the porch, sit, and watch the earth taking its bath. I sometimes smell it coming. The scent of parched earth’s initial contact with raindrops, is one that always transports me back to childhood.
sitting on the porch during downpour
listening to heaven coming to earth
facinated by the rhythm of heavy raindrops on the tin roof
piercing puddles making waves
pinging on the railing
bursting and splashing arms and legs
side way rain chasing us deeper onto
the porch spurring a chorus of
“Rain. Rain GO away
Come again another day!”
as the downpour eases
dashing off the porch to set
sail paper boats on puddles
and on return of the sun
searching the skies for rainbows

I like the paper boats in the puddles.

I was trying to remember how to make those. They really looked like a boat..and they float. Thanks for stopping by.

That was a great poem. I loved the rain ‘pinging on the railing.’
