This rise of incivility, hate mongering, and inhumane acts have settled in. It’s sowing itself into our fabric. I worry it’s a stain not easily removed.
a complex legacy
inhumane circumstances
normalized for too long
cotton fields
bloom with the DNA
of my ancestors

Wonderful political and moral poetic The sting of truth in every line. Fascism lurks and prepares to pounce. We, the people, the poets, must stop it!

You speak the sad truth with your brilliant word smithing and analogies. I believe empathy is becoming an underdeveloped trait.

I agree, sadly. Underdeveloped trait… indeed.

That’s a mighty pen you’re wielding. A powerful poem. It hurts ’cause it’s true.

I try to avoid it as much as possible. Certain voices come on the radio and I turn it off immediately.

I love how language mirrors actions and negative words brig out negative emotions: incivility sounds like spitting, hate mongering reminds me of a shaken fist, and inhumane sounds like a loud moan of pain. I love the wordplay in ‘It’s sowing itself into our fabric. I worry it’s a stain not easily removed.’ The haiku is hard-hitting, Pat!

What is inhumane shouldn’t be normalized, but maybe the trend will change.
