Powerful thoughts here! So many applications. Thanx for one of the best haikus I have read!

Had never considered what a porch location might mean to the caged bird …. wonderful write.

Yes Pat, I like the paradox you conjure so succinctly here – perhaps that state of being describes many of us? Brilliantly done – for me, what haikus are all about…

A cage is always a cage… and still the caged bird sings.

May have control of it’s body, but it’s mind is beyond that control🙂.

Aren’t we birds in a cage in one way or another. Freedom is an illusion.

Surely..one way or another… it’s a myth.

I haven’t seen a caged bird for many years, Pat, and if I did see one I would be tempted to set it free.

Yep! You need to come and be the unruly kid I was just wishing for while talking to Ken🙂

Which makes one wonder. Is it treat or torture to give the birds this ration of fresh air?

Offering temptation they can’t achieve.

And they leave them unattended.
I need an unruly kid to sneak up there and let them loose🙂

We all have these illusions. Good one.

What a tease that would be. I’ve never really understood putting birds in cages as pets..

Weird, I know. I don’t get it either.

So much to think about here! Some species should never be pets, and I agree, birds were made to fly and explore! 💯

Alive but dead. I wonder if the birds know? I wonder if civilized humans are like birds in cages we just don’t know it? Provocative poem, Pat.

I think we are all living in a cage of some form.

Very powerful and remarkable writing. The illusion of freedom is heartbreaking to see especially with the imagery of birds outside in a cage; they probably want to fly freely in the sky. It also reminds me of when we think we feel free, we can actually be boxed in whether from ourselves or, tragically, someone else.
Beautiful work here.

Thank you Lucy. That illusion has touched so many, most times without us really realizing it. Thanks for stopping by.
