Spring Sighting -Tanka Haibun

This winter has not been especially kind to my spirits. A heavy heart loomed, most times out of nowhere. It was hard to get ahold of, or figure out why. This fueled my quest for spring which took its time getting here.Today, I spotted my first cherry blossoms! A lone tree, stands among others that still stood tall, gawky and bare. This lifted my spirits.

first of the season
a cherry blossom sighting
as spring takes a hold
the blossoms ripple and sway
in spring breeze, lightens my mood

New Dawn

she scribbles memories
as they emerge from the fog
dwindling recall
evident in speech pattern
in twilight, hopes for new dawn

no explaning this
deliberate attraction –
am still being pursued

through the autumn of our years,
precious gift, ardor unmatched

a lawyer / pastor’s
theft of offerings and souls –
double criminal
an ongoing breach of faith
bereft, her search continues

For Colleen’s Tanka Tuesdays, writer’s choice of words. I chose bereft & faith

Lollygagging

lollygagging mode
adrift to the days of old
a sense of well being –
recess bell spawns youthful dash –
dusty school yard – smell of rain

For Colleen’s Weekly Tanka Tuesday where the prompt words are synonyms of “slow & work”.
I used “lollygagging & spawn”.
Lollygagging…what’s not to love about that word. I can hear my Primary School teacher’s voice (Mrs Beckford), “stop lollygagging and get in with it!”

Winter Mountain

clumps of snow on pines
mother natures ornaments
very vibrant creek
gallops under sheets of ice
my day on winter mountain
