Pieces

pieces of my life
on bits of paper mingle
with the coins
in my pocket – the poem
continues to elude me

Defy

Change
synonym: coins

in trees, suttle signs
as autumn rounds the corner

Time & Laughter

Photo : A park near me.

fallen leaves are brown
bare branches now face deep frost
how time has moved on
through weary bones, but laughter
tends my soul holding time still

Autumn night

autumn night
promise of change is in the air
time moves on

Challenge is to try to write an all new haiku with the same mood and spirit as the given one to pay tribute to Basho’s poetry skills.

Host’s attempt:

on the porch
a moment of silence
the sound of rain

End of the Month

We are on the trail with Basho

end of the month
no moon hugging an ancient cedar
in the storm

© Basho (Tr. Jane Reichhold)

A translation:

moonless night . . .
a powerful wind embraces
the ancient cedars

© Basho (Tr. ?)

OUR HOST:

I bow my head
in worship of the holy sunrise
at Ise Shrine

© Chèvrefeuille

From these I got a sense change and loss.

MY EFFORT:

blooms double in size
spring eases close to summer
end of the month

Prickly

PRICKLY

Dragged out by the feet

Kicking and screaming

That’s how he came into this world

He has lived life like that ever since

Contentious, rambunctious, a ‘my way

is the only way outlook”

Age and lessons learned had little impact

He was who he  was

There was no changing this
