Echoes of my Neighborhood

Yesterday, I went walking at the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens.  Everything has sprung!! I came upon this show at the lilly pond where there was a visitor.

image

image

The attendant said there’s usually two of them that visit every day.

image

And that they didn’t live there

image

It was amazing to watch!!

image

image

He put on quite a show. The odd thing was, he stayed right between these two lilly pads. Even with all his antics!!
image

He said a harty goodbye before taking flight.

A walk in the park on Sunday

image

This was just standing by itself. The pretty girl that sneaks out of the house and have all eyes on here..and her parents didn’t even know she was gone:)

image

This box was at the plant store. Gorgeous!

image

This is begging for a toddler to climb on it. I don’t if it’s art or for just that purpose. Pretty cool shape.

20160522_140233.jpg

I tried jumping to reach this chin-up bar, but I was too short. A man going by on a bicycle saw my efforts, stopped, got off his bike, picked up that log like it was a feather, and placed it for me to stand on. That was very nice of him. I thanked him, and my shoulders thanks him:)

image

This is the skateboard park, in the park. The was a toddler running up and down the side of this. That’s about what I would do here. Great idea little one:)

image

The was a game of cricket going on…Yep, they were a cricket club. And they were having fun..

image

Spring has sprung everywhere. Everything still has that “tender green” look to it.

image

Especially these…

image

Japanese Maple outside my mom’s house. I got seedlings from it a while ago, now I have one too. Only with skinnier legs. I know it’s weird..I’ll add a picture of it tomorrow.

20160506_115428-1.jpg

Here is my baby as promised, skinny legs and all. If you want to watch time zoom by plant a tree from seedling! It’s kinda like watching a child grow. You tend to think they are the only ones getting old, till you realize they’re not!:)

image

This and the one below is from a tree in my neighborhood.

image

Today it seems I’ve been seeing red.

image

This flower is a Jasmine, a Madagascar Jasmine. An indoor plant. Very fragrant, and a vine I plan to train to run all over my house.

image

This flower is a Gardenia. Also an indoor plant. This morning this particular flower looked like this.

image

By the end of the day it looked like this. Also very fragrant. And amazing to watch.

This the gods are playing a trick on me because with these two very fragrant flowers all I can smell is cigar! Yes, cigar! And NOBODY smokes. Everyone that walks into my room stops, close their eyes and inhales deeply. Yes, the gods are playing a trick on me! I’m waiting for the fairies to do their magic.

I spent some time at the garden this week. It was in full spring fling. They are getting ready for the Annual Cherry Blossom Festival to take place on 30 Apr – 01 May. And, a film crew was poking about. Something is cooking as evidence by to multitude of big box trucks parked on the street outside the park. A movie is in the making.

I had to pull over to get this photo of these cherry blossoms through a mesh fence. They are all over the city. Everything is blooming. Spring at last!! These buildings are very well kept as are the grounds. Some have water view, some views of Manhattan and the bridge to Staten Island..

image

The geese are back, they were hanging out in the circle at the roundabout. Lots and lots of them!!

image

These gulls were at the parking lot of the mall. They were salivating over something. I think someone was feeding them.

That is my neighborhood for this week, enjoy. And a good week to all.

image

In lower Manhattan, forgot what street.

image

This was in Macy’s as well…decor I guess.  Very eye catching.

image

And this too was in Macy’s. Don ‘t know what he was doing there but he had quite a few buddies.

I swear that store is a community onto itself.

image

That building with the odd dip in it is in Manhattan, still under construction. Wonder what it will be when it’s finally done.

image

This is on Nostrand Avenue, near Atlantic.. in Bed Stuy.

image

Details, it has clearly been there for a while and still in good form. I think this was on Classon Ave in Brooklyn

image

This is actually in Macy’s, Herald Square

Hope you enjoyed the echoes in my neighborhood this week!

Echoes of My Neighborhood-DETAILS – Crossing the Brooklyn Bridge

image

image

I always wonder what these were, there are a few of them. My imagination tells me they have to do with cell phones. I may be off altogether.

image

The walkway onto the Brooklyn Bridge

image
I think this must have been publicized in tourist booklets because the traffic on the walkway has grown immensely. The photos from it are amazing, especially sunsets.

image

Angles

image

Lines and more lines. It’s best to be in the passenger seat, then you don’t have to keep your eyes on the road.

image

Support – the beauty is in the details. Everytime I’m on this approach my imagination runs wild. The sweat that must have gone into this is amazing.

image

Love the archetecture…approach onto the bridge. I think that building in the distance Is a government building. Love, love it’s top.

Lines and more lines. It’s best to be in the passenger seat, then you don’t have to keep your eyes on the road.

I guess this week I had archetectural ‘lines’ on my mind:)

I thought I’d share my rainy day with you today. It was peaceful. The music from the rain on the tin roof always brings back great rainy day memories from childhood.

On approach to the Brooklyn Bridge from FDR drive

image

This is the Guggenheim Museum on 5th Ave

image

You know you are downtown when you see this mainstay

image

The home of the Frick Collection. This was a mansion now a museum. The owners lived with the art on the walls. It is amazing in there! Frick was the strike breaker who worked for Carnegie Steel back in the day. Yes, that one of Carnegie Hall fame.

image

Love the exterior of that red pub. That was on 14th street.

image

It was an unseasonably warm day yesterday so I was out and about. And so was everyone else. That person in the red, white and blue was a guy. And no, it was not that kinda hot. Some folks were still wearing jackets, not that guy:)

image

This was at Union Square Park, a show in itself at any given time:
