deep into the night
cigarette smoke swirl and curl
she sits without moving
studying the movement
of the smoke in the dimly lit room
scripting the events of the night
maybe dawn will shed some light

Jinx – A Tanka
under clear skies, on
this enchanted full moon night,
thoughts of a jinx fade
but as apprehensions ease
there was still that little voice

Magic
In the black of night
I step out onto the porch, no light…
Stars are bright, moon’s out
adding to the magic of the night
Wonder how many others are
are finding this night just right
Counting stars enhances the magic of the night

Dusk
There is something calming about watching the sun ease over the edge of the horizon. Skies meet ocean, the dawn of dusk. It feels like a rendezvous with hints of new beginnings. As Day moves into the arms of night my thoughts turn to hopes for the next day. I exhale. I sense a chance to regroup, and give way to the start of something new – cloud free.
