Slow Reveal

in a slow reveal

the promise of spring is closer to being realized

branches stand clad in nubs soon to be buds

sparrows and starlings cling to fine branches like leaves that ought to be

time stands ready this season on this trip around the sun

will you be here to welcome the delicate white blooms of the pear tree?

will they enjoy the gentle flicker
in the spring breeze without your fleeting gaze?

it is a slow reveal

Glimmer

a glimmer of spring –
once bare branches
of the pear tree
now clad in buds and
a smattering of sparrows

Splash of Color

Odd bunch..
sparrows, robins
cardinal, small parrot.
It feels like the group from last year.
Is it?
They visit the feeder at dawn
taking turns, no conflicts
Splash of color
in spring

Spring Mingle – Tanka Haibun

It’s officially spring! Walks in the park are back on. At this point, there are hints of green poking through the wheat brown of winter. But, not a flower in sight.
The beauty of this time though is, there are still more birds than humans. And they’re reveling in the solitude.

a springtime pastime
sparrows frolic in the park –
cliques fly back and forth

in a giant spring mingle
rowdy teens too, just like us!

Eavesdropping- A Quadrille

Steeped in nature,
Eavesdropping –

Mass flutter of wings
erase trickling rustle
of falling leaves

Sparrows on a lark
on pine branches

Call of the crow pierce
the babble of the creek

Unseen scurry under dried leaves
sends a shiver up my spine –
Eavesdropping halted!
